Preview : Days of Heaven, early summer look book

Hello darlings!

Last time I was writing I've been hunting for the sun; now I have to admit I'm really falling for the soft light right before the dusk.

Some also call it magic hour, the very short interval before and a little after sunset that has that wonderful yellow glow.

Terrence Malick's Days of Heaven has been shot almost entirely at magic hour. And that's NOT the only reason to see it! The wonderful Edwardian fashion (and we all love the 70s take on Victorian/Edwardian style!), the heartbreaking love story, the landscape, young Richard Gere...

This is just a sneak peek on the look book  I've been working on for next week's shop update: a micro-collection of vintage romantic shirts and  blouses from the 60s, 70s and early 80s. Think crochet, pastels, sailor and peter pan collars.

Of course, the styling is more Edwardian summer vacation meets crazy California antique mansion meets Woodstock, with a modern floral touch- succulents!

I'm pretty happy with the first results, there's still much editing to be done! I already showed this to a friend whose reaction was something like - This is like Rodarte meets American Apparel! You look SO French!

I guess I can't really ask for a better compliment that that :)

Shop update : party dresses!

Hello darlings!

... after two long nights and a weekend of stolen photo shoots, they're finally HERE!

The first batch of dresses of course!

I have changed things around a little, but these beauties are ready to find new homes!

There's enough sparkle and glamor for all you creatures of the night out there.

I feel like it's best to let the film speak for itself in this case; it's a short little gem!
Also, this lady from Amsterdam has a lovely post about the film on her blog!

... obviously the Warhol movie, not the Shirley Temple one. Here's a nice shot of the infamous duo. And if you brave the crappy youtibe quality, you can watch the movie here.

...and one of my favorite scenes from this amazing movie

I guess this one doens't need much of an introduction, as you've probably all seem Whit Stillman's brilliant Last Days of Disco, at least as a Chloe Sevigny and disco fan.

If you haven't, this memorable sequence might win you over.

Make sure to check back for a selection of summer and sun dresses on Thursday!

The Sun Hunters

Hello darlings!

The weather has finally started to move towards more normal temperatures around here. It still doesn't feel like spring yet, not to mention summer.

However, I noticed that somewhere between the late afternoon and sunset there has started to be more and more sunshine. Very tricky sunshine, I must add!

Like you look out the window and think ''oh it's sunny out let's take some photos!'' and by teh time you change and get your camera it's all gone...

So this is what I've been doing this weekend - hunting for the sun. I did freeze my bones off and cursed the wind and the changing clouds, but I'm pretty happy with the results in the end.

Here's a little taste of what you'll be finding in the shop this week : sun and party dresses, cute and cozy cardigans and fun accessories.

In the meantime every dress is linked to the film it references, for sheer cinephile delight.

Enjoy!

Late bloomers

Hello darlings!

I wish I could simply say ''oh, it's been a while'', with whimsy nonchalance while smiling awkwardly and playing with my hair, only after going on a 4 months hiatus announced, I feel like a little more elaborate explanation is expected.

Only I don't have a stellar excuse to throw at you, much less a logical and valid explanation; let's just call it hibernation. Yes, that's a pretty name for it. Daria of Kittenhood used the term in a previous post of her own.

I must confess I've been going through some dark stuff; some may call it depression, other white people's problems or other mumbo jumbo term for simply feeling down for a while. In my case, however, it's been going on for more than usual and I haven't really been able to shake it off, but I'm still trying. Baby steps my dear, baby steps.

If there's any consolation, the weather hasn't really been on my side either. I know it might sound silly to complain about the weather, but this continental nightmarish grey can do more harm than expected. Every year since I moved to Paris I kept complaining about the lack of sunshine and how we didn't get a proper spring. Well, I must say this year has been the worst so far -we got more snow in March than during most of the winter, we had a few sunny days in April but the rest of the time it's been just overcast, rain and drizzle and they predicted hail this weekend!

How can one think of frilly dresses and sandals with these chilly winds howling? I haven't even put away all my winter coats and I still prefer wearing tights with my skirts.

However, one thing that kept going despite my sheer neglect has been my little etsy shop. that's why I figured maybe it wouldn't be such a bad idea to try and start adding all the stuff I've adding to the ''to sale'' pile.

I must thank everyone who helped support my business, all the lovely people around the world buying stuff and all of you leaving nice comments and adding stuff to treasuries and pinterest boards, it really means a lot to me!

It's so rewarding to get nice feedback and hear that someone is happy with the stuff you found!

So thanks again, everyone (especially a few lovely ladies from Australia who saved my broke ass a few weeks ago) and please bare with my flaky self in the future!

To end on a better note, here's a little taste of what's going in to be in the shop in the next few days! I have a lot of lovely dresses, cute cardigans and waaaay too many white blouses and shirts. Mostly 70s and 80s stuff with a hint of 50s and 60s marvels.

Stay tuned!
